Charlestown South Public School

Parental Involvement

Parents are encouraged to become involved in the active life of the school.  The Parent and Citizens Association works to assist in providing needed resources and contribute to decision making in many of the facets of school life.  Social occasions are organised.  Many teachers invite parents to assist them in planned activities in and around the classroom and on excursions.

P&C Association

The main parent body in the school is the Parents and Citizens’ Association, which meets in the Staff Room on the fourth Tuesday day of each month at 7.30 p.m.  This parent body makes a vital contribution to the success of the many academic, cultural, social and sporting programs and special events which take place in the school.  The   P & C helps in the provision of essential equipment from financial contributions raised by the Fund Raising Committee.

Parents are encouraged to join the P & C and to attend the meetings as well as supporting all the many and varied social and fund-raising functions that are held through the year.

Parent Helpers

Several teachers in the school seek help from interested and willing parents in activity lessons or to assist children with reading and maths.  Mention of such a need is usually made at the Parent Awareness Meetings.  Parents also help in many other ways at the school though attendance at meetings and activities organised by the P & C Association, at the canteen, at social functions, at fund-raising activities, at assemblies and special occasions, at excursions and at working bees.

Those who help in any way at school level are required to sign a special register to enable an insurance cover to be provided in the event of an accident or injury.

All volunteers working in the school have completed a Child Protection declaration.

Parent awareness Program

Parent / Teacher Meetings are held by each class teacher early in Term 1 to acquaint the parents with the policies, programs, routines and procedures that are to operate in the class for that year.

These meetings provide an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and to seek answers to any questions that may have arisen in those first weeks in the class.  It is not a time to seek a report on a child’s progress.

Parent - Teacher Interviews

Report cards are sent home in June and November. Parent / Teacher Interviews are conducted in conjunction with the issuing of their child’s school reports in June each year. The mid-year interviews are usually conducted in the first few weeks of Term 3.

Times and dates are arranged through survey.  However, parents may make an appointment to see their child’s teacher to discuss progress or concerns at a mutually convenient time during any week of the school year.  Making an appointment will ensure that class teaching will not be interrupted.

When a parent wants to meet with their child’s teacher to discuss their child’s progress, etc., an appointment can be made by contacting the front office or seeing the teacher before school, at lunchtime or after school.

Appointments with the Principal should be made through the front office.
